Telegram asserts that it adheres to all European Union regulations, including the Digital Services Act. The company emphasizes that its moderation practices align with industry standards and are continuously evolving to meet legal requirements.

In its statement, Telegram highlighted Pavel Durov’s transparency and frequent travel across Europe, asserting that he has nothing to hide. This response comes amid claims suggesting that the platform may be involved in or facilitating illicit activities. 

Telegram categorically denies these allegations, labeling them as “absurd” and asserting that neither the platform nor its CEO should be held accountable for the misuse of the platform by its users.

French authorities have reportedly been investigating possible connections between Durov and illegal activities organized or disseminated through Telegram. Although no formal charges have been filed, the investigation has raised concerns about the platform’s role in these activities. Telegram has challenged these claims, emphasizing that the responsibility for user misconduct lies with the individuals, not the platform or its leadership.

In response to the ongoing situation, the Russian embassy in France has called for clarity and cooperation from French authorities. The embassy has expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of information and consular access concerning Durov’s involvement.
